Quick Tips for PICkit Programmers

PICkit_2_vertical__USB_Adapter_-_300PICkit programmers are awesome and by far the best value programmers available.  A couple quick tips add to their ease of use.

TIP #1:  Use an ICSP cable instead of a direct connection for boards with a vertical ICSP connector like the TAP-28 has.  ICSP cables are usually short cables with female connectors on each end.  This tip shows how to quickly adapt these cables to the PICkit.

TIP #2:  The PICkit programmers are designed for ICSP and don't have any sockets for programming loose chips.  A low-cost ZIF programming board will allow you to program almost any PIC in a DIP package.
